fishing rod terminology

Do I need a rod license to fish from the beach in the UK?
I am new to fishing and as I live near the coast I’d like to try my hand at fishing from the beach- once I’ve got the right kit, of course.
As far as I can tell, there are two licenses- coarse and game. Am I to presume that neither of these covers coastal fishing (strictly from the shore) or would this fall under ‘game’ fishing?
Also- can I just wander on to any public beach and start to fish, or are there specific areas and times that are open to fishing?
Please excuse me if I have made a silly mistake or question is a stupid one- as I say I am brand new to fishing and I am still getting to grips with all the terminology!
Any pointers as to what to look for for my first beach-fishing kit also greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
no you dont need a license or permit to fish in the sea ,but if you are using a beach casting rod be careful when casting because the weight of the rod can pull you in. have a good time fishing.
