Amazon’s Alexa voice options now include Shaq and Melissa McCarthy


Those who find Alexa’s default voice too cool can emulate the celebrity digital assistant. Although, in the past, the only impression an AI could make was everyone’s favorite impression Samuel L. Jackson. Turns out people loved the idea of ‚Äč‚Äčasking for a weather report from a star, because so does Amazon adding The two most popular voices of the Alexa Toolkit. New options include four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal and Academy Award-nominated actress Melissa McCarthy.

Amazon says the SLJ skill, offered at a limited price of $0.99, became one of its best-selling digital purchases at launch. The new audio options don’t come with an early discount, so you’ll have to pay $5 each. But the prospect of hearing ShackRab and McCarthy telling jokes might seal the deal for some. Alexa has grown into an impersonator thanks to advances in neural text-to-speech technology. Obviously, AI is getting smarter all the time as Amazon is introducing a new original sound option and a new wake word (“Ziggy”) as well.
